JVP Goes To Court Against Arbitrary Take Over Of Tissa PS
A petition was filed with the Supreme Court yesterday (9) by a group of people including JVP Member of Parliament for Tissamaharama Nihal Galappaththi moving Court to nullify the suspension of the Pradeshiya Sabha by the Chief Minister of the Southern Provincial Council. Lawyers Manjula Balasuriya and Sunil Watagala filed the petition on behalf of the petitioners.

Tissamaharama Pradehiya Sabha controlled by the JVP has won acclaim as one of the best local government institutions in the island. The petitioners claim that it is the only local government council that has had no complaints of any fraud or corruption from the people.  However, Chief Minister of Southern Province dissolved the Pradeshiya Sabha claiming fraud and irregularities in the PS.

The petitioners state the decision had been taken even without a fair probe being carried out regarding the accusations. They point out that Rajapakse regime and its henchmen could not bear the administration that has been carried out without any frauds or corruption and took measures to arbitrarily suspend the Chairman and hand over the administration of the PS to a commissioner.

Southern Chief Minister Shan Wijelal, Provincial Commissioner, the Secretary of Tissamaharama PS and several others have been named as respondents.
