In this tour, Indian opener Virender Sehwag has slammed the Sri Lankan bowling on several occasions and on Monday he slammed them again when he came for the media briefing after the hosts deliberately denied him a well deserved hundred during the third ODI of the tri‐nation tournament now underway here.
It was deliberate. He should not have done it. It was not in true sportsmans spirit. He should have shown sportsmans spirit. Its not done when a batsman is on 99 that you bowl a no ball. That doesnt figure as good cricket, Sehwag said speaking to journalists yesterday.
Sehwag was furious after the Sri Lankans exhibited poor sportsmanship and insisted that he was convinced that it was deliberate. Why should I take a look at the video? I am convinced it was deliberate. It was a foot outside and I didnt know then that I wouldnt be credited with a hundred, he added.
They (Sri Lankans) have done that because no team wants anybody to score hundreds against them. So they did that and they were happy. We are happy, we won the game and got the bonus point.
The incident is sure to create bad blood between the teams after Sehwag accused the Sri Lankans of not playing within the Spirit of the Game. I am sure someone would have said something. Maybe the captain or senior team members. It has happened before with Sachin when he was on 96 not out in Cuttack, they bowled four wides down leg. Its not the first time Sri Lanka have done this. They did it twice with us, dont know how many times they have done with others, Sehwag added.
