Sri Lanka court rejects petition against dissolving of the Eastern Provincial Council

 

Sri Lanka Court of Appeal yesterday rejected a petition filed seeking a writ preventing the dissolution of the Eastern Provincial Council.
 
The petition was filed by a voter of Damana area in Ampara district that comes under the territory of the Eastern Provincial Council.
 
Appeal Court Judge Justice Sri Skandarajah rejected the petition without liabilities.
 
The Eastern Provincial Council has already been dissolved and nominations have been called for the polls to be held in September.
 
Last election for the Eastern Provincial Council was held in 2008 and the council was dissolved prematurely but in accordance with the Constitution.
