Responding to the alarmingly growing number of crimes against children in the country, Sri Lanka Ministry of Justice has taken measures to establish a separate high court in Colombo to expedite the hearings of child abuse cases.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Justice Kamalini de Silva told media that the discussions are underway to acquire the building and other facilities for the court.
She further said that the cases pertaining to child abuse in Colombo area will be diverted to this court.
It is expected that the quick implementation of justice against the offenders and providing relief to the victims would result in reducing the number of child abuse incidents.
