Commissioner General of Examinations W. M. N. J. Pushpakumara told The Island that 574 students had applied for the examination during the five-day grace period given to GCE (A/L) 2011 students following the release of revised Z–score marks.Pushpakumara said that there was also a special examination centre for prisoners at the Kalutara prison and two special centres for blind students at Tangalle and Ratmalana.
Candidates were expected to carry their National Identity Cards or valid passports, but those who did not possess either of those, could get their photographs certified by the Divisional Secretary of their respective area, he said.
But, such candidates, the Commissioner General warned, would be admitted to the examination on condition that their temporary identity document would have to be verified with the issuing authority. Their examination results would not be released until their identities were verified to prevent impersonation at the examination.
Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has requested the political parties to carry out their propaganda work without causing disturbances to the examination as the ongoing provincial council election campaigns in North-Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Province may disrupt the exam activities.
